To ensure the correct fit, logic boards must be identified by logic board part number, not just the MacBook model number.

For example:

  • A1278 MacBook Pro was produced from 2008–2012, but the logic board changed almost every year

  • Logic board numbers always begin with “820-”

Example:

  • 15″ MacBook Pro 2011 (A1286): 820-2915-A / 820-2915-B (interchangeable)

  • 13″ MacBook Pro 2012 (A1278): 820-3115-A / 820-3115-B (interchangeable)
