Most repair shops replace a motherboard or send it away. We repair it. At our Bentleigh East workshop we do component‑level (micro‑soldering) repair on laptop motherboards, MacBook logic boards, desktop boards and graphics cards – the faults that otherwise make a machine “not worth fixing”. Free diagnosis, fixed quote, and your data stays exactly where it is. Call or text 0421 388 876.

Board faults we repair

  • No power / dead – shorted power rails, failed PMIC or charging ICs, blown fuses and MOSFETs.
  • Not charging or only works on power – DC‑in jacks, USB‑C port and charging circuit repair on laptops and MacBooks.
  • Liquid damage – ultrasonic cleaning, corrosion repair and replacement of the specific components that were damaged.
  • Turns on, no display – GPU/chipset power faults, display circuit and backlight fuse repair.
  • Random shutdowns, overheating, fans at full speed – thermal sensor and power‑management faults.
  • Broken ports and connectors – USB, HDMI, audio, keyboard and display connectors re‑soldered.
  • Graphics cards – melted 12VHPWR power sockets on RTX 4090 / 5090, power‑stage and memory faults. See GPU power socket repair.
  • BIOS / EFI problems – corrupted firmware, password‑locked boards, Mac EFI and NAND work.

Why repair instead of replace

A replacement board for a recent laptop or MacBook often costs more than the machine is worth, and on Macs it means losing the data on the soldered storage. Board repair typically costs a fraction of that, keeps your files and apps intact, and is the only option for many models where boards are no longer sold. If a board is beyond economical repair we tell you after the free diagnosis, and we can still recover your data from it.

How it works

Bring the laptop, MacBook, desktop or card with its charger to 2 Bellevue Road, Bentleigh East (parking at the door, open 7 days 5am–11pm), or post it to us from anywhere in Victoria. We diagnose on the bench with a schematic and thermal camera, text you a fixed quote, and repair with a 3‑month warranty on the work. Most board repairs take one to three days; liquid damage and multi‑fault boards a little longer.

We work on HP, Dell, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, MSI, Microsoft Surface, Razer and gaming laptops, all MacBook Air and Pro models including Apple silicon, and desktop boards from all major brands.

Frequently asked questions

How much does motherboard repair cost?

Diagnosis is free. Common single‑fault repairs such as charging circuits or DC jacks are a fixed price well below a replacement board; liquid damage and multi‑fault boards are quoted after assessment.

How long does it take?

Typically 1–3 business days. Simple port and jack repairs are often same day.

Will I lose my data?

No. Board repair keeps your storage untouched. If the board can’t be saved we recover the data from it.

Can you repair a board another shop said was dead?

Often, yes. “Needs a new motherboard” is usually a diagnosis of the shop’s capability, not the board. Bring it in for a free second opinion.
